Communication
Communication Methods
At our Early Intervention Preschool, we prioritize the development of effective communication skills for all our students, regardless of their verbal abilities. We understand that each child is unique and may require different methods of communication, which is why we teach and encourage the use of many different communication methods.
For our non-verbal/pre-verbal students, we introduce them to communication tools such as PECS, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Apps, visual schedules, and choice boards. Our goal is to help them communicate their wants and needs in a way that is comfortable and effective for them. We also provide training and support to parents on the use of these communication strategies/devices to ensure consistency between home and school.
Additionally, we encourage our verbal students to communicate throughout the day, helping them with word pronunciation and the use of more varied vocabulary. Our friendly and professional approach creates a supportive environment that fosters effective communication and helps our students thrive.
Communication in Class
As noted above, we believe that communication is key to a child's development and growth. For this reason, we encourage communication throughout the day by providing various opportunities for our students to interact with each other. We encourage group play and games which not only facilitate socialization but also provide ample opportunities for communication.
Our teachers also focus on teaching social skills to accommodate group play and ensure that turn-taking is understood and practiced. We understand that communication can be challenging for some of our students, so we also teach them suitable communication methods that best suit their needs and abilities.
Our goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment that encourages communication and socialization for all of our students.
